In lieu of separable contacts, the switching function is accomplished by means of an arrangement of semiconductors and passive circuit devices. The item functions in response to electrical changes in its own internal circuit caused by the approach of permanent magnets, metals, capacitance or inductance. The form of the item and kind of actuation (push, toggle and rotary action) may be identical to that of switches having separable contacts.
